H.E. Johnson Toribiong, President of the Republic of Palau, announced to the General Assembly of the United Nations, that Palau has officially declared the waters of its Exclusive Economic Zone (230,000 sq. miles) as the world's first Shark Sanctuary.
The President has also called for a global ban on shark-finning and for other nations to follow suit.
Creola Note: Dermot Keane, manager of Sam's Tours, has been the leading force behind the development of the Shark Sanctuary. He is the one-man voice behind the blog noted above and is celebrating in Palau today.

Hello. My wife and I are experienced sailors and have sailed extensively in the Sea of Cortez, the Caribbean, around the Hawaiian Islands and throughout the Mediterranean.
ReplyDeleteWe have longed to spend a month or so sailing around Malaysia and, when we came upon your listing offering the use of Creola, we decided to contact you.
By now, your newest grandchild has already arrived but perhaps you might be interested in planning a new visit to California and that an exchange for our home might be worth exploring.
While we're not exactly adjacent to San Diego, our home is two short blocks from the beautiful wide sandy beach of Huntington Beach . . . also know as the Beach Boy's "Surf City". We're about 90 minutes from the heart of San Diego, less than 30 minutes from Disneyland, and an enjoyable 15 minute walk from the downtown area of Main Street and the Huntington Beach Pier where fairs and festivals are scheduled almost every weekend.
Our home itself is about 2,000 square feet with a living room, dining room, kitchen, bathroom, family room and courtyard downstairs and two large bedrooms, each with a private bath upstairs. Naturally, cable TV and wireless (wi-fi)internet is provided.
A little about us: We're a professional, mature, married couple with an impressive sailing resume of over 20 years. You can get to know us a little more by accessing a reprint of an article written about us at:

If you are interested in exploring some sort of exchange with us, please contact me directly at MagicJer@socal.rr.com
I look forward to hearing back from you soon.
Take care,
- Jerry Hasson
